The main star cast of Ponniyin Selvan 2 includes Karthi in the role of Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan, the orphaned prince of the Vana clan, Chiyaan Vikram as the crown prince Aditya Karikalan, Jayam Ravi in ​​the role of Arumozhi Varma, aka Ponniyin Selvan, the future emperor. Trisha Krishnan plays the role of Princess Kundavai Devi, while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan appears in a dual role, as the antagonist Nandini and Oomai Rani.   • In 1985, the popular actor MGR, also known as MG Ramachandran, bought the rights from Ponniyin Selvan to make a movie. But before he started shooting, the legendary couldn’t work on the movie because he had an accident. Despite renewing the rights for four years, he was unable to work on the film and eventually shelved it.
  • Subsequently, Kamal Haasan bought the rights and teamed up with director Mani Ratnam to make the film. The director revealed that he was working on the first draft of the film but was unable to move forward with it as the project did not make financial sense at the time.
  • In 2019, Mani Ratnam finally made his dream project come true with funding from Lyca Productions. The film started as a standalone film with a budget of Rs 500 crore. Later it was split into two parts.
  • Ponniyin Selvan is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel of the same name.
