Dan Aykroyd gave him good advice on ‘SNL’
Hader revealed that when he first started SNLAykroyd sat him down and (correctly) told him how his sketch comedy show career would go.
“He said, ‘Here’s what’s going to happen: your first few years you’re going to be on shaky ground, you’re going to think you’re going to get fired at any moment and the public won’t know you. It’s your job to make sure that the audience knows and likes you, then the audience will know you, you go to your target and get a little applause break because they know you, then you can start doing weird things, and they’ll go with you. few years and you get to a place where you’re just clocking in. You get to a place where you come in, you make an impression, you do your character, play a game show host, do whatever you need from you, do very well … and then you clock out and go home. But once you know you’ve just clocked in, it’s time to go.’”
