Terrible night

The final entry here is a delightful twist on the horrible promotional night that is so much fun, it’s probably the first time I’ve ever had the desire to visit Altoona, Pennsylvania. The promotion in question is simply the Altoona Curve’s “Awful Night”. Rather than an ill-intentioned well-intentioned promo, Awful Night was an exercise in revelry in pure, horrendous chaos. It was a wonderful tribute to Murphy’s Law, because they made sure that anything that could go wrong did go wrong.
Let’s look at it from the perspective of a fan who is there without knowing it’s happening, or doesn’t know it yet exactly what Awful Night entails. First you would notice that they had mispronounced a player’s name, only to realize that every name would be mispronounced all night. Then you see an unfamiliar face on the Jumbotron when you realize that your beloved Curve’s headshots have all been switched for baby photos. Finally, if you were only flying for a fun, relaxing baseball game, you might have seen yourself on the Jumbotron as part of the devastating Kiss Cam alternative, the ‘Alone Cam’.
Incredible.
