Well, Twilight fans: it looks like the wolf is out of the bag. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate Television is currently working on a TV adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling book series, according to sources.

The series is reportedly in early development with very few confirmed details, including a network/platform or a writer, but insiders told THR that Meyer is expected to be involved. Wyck Godfrey and former Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chair Erik Feig are also said to be attached to executive produce the television project. Lionsgate representatives did not immediately respond to POPSUGAR’s request for comment.

Meyer’s Twilight series became a seminal pop culture phenomenon in the mid-2000s, producing five blockbuster films – “Twilight”, “New Moon”, “Eclipse”, and “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” and “Part 2” – starring in starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. The franchise’s fandom propelled every actor to stardom, and the film series itself grossed over $3.4 billion worldwide, per THR. Some of the franchise’s stars have reunited in the years since the height of their films’ pandemonium, the most recent being Stewart and Rami Malek (who plays Benjamin in “Breaking Dawn – Part 2”) at the 2022 Oscars.

After the movie franchise ended in 2012, Meyer released another book as part of the Twilight series: 2020’s “Midnight Sun,” which retells the events of the first book from the perspective of Edward Cullen (played by Pattinson in the movies). That same year, the author teased plans for more books in the saga to USA Today, telling the outlet, “I think there are two more books in the world I want to write.” She added, “I sketched them out and wrote a chapter, I’m thinking of the first one so I know it’s there,” though she also said, “I’m not ready right now. I want to do something completely new . .”

At this point, it’s unclear if the upcoming Twilight show will feature any of the original movie stars. It’s not the only fantasy book-to-movie franchise to get the TV treatment, though. On April 12, Max officially confirmed plans for a Harry Potter TV series described as a “faithful adaptation” of JK Rowling’s popular book series.
