‘Aquaman’ actor Amber Heard returned to the red carpet a year after the defamation lawsuit against her and ex-husband Johnny Depp ended. On June 23, Heard promoted her upcoming film “In the Fire” at Italy’s Taormina Film Festival.

Heard was all smiles as she walked the red carpet (which was technically teal) in a long, black dress accented with a cape on the shoulders. The actor wore her blonde hair loose and in curly curls. In photos from the event, Heard can be seen smiling with her costars, including Luca Calvani and Eduardo Noriega, as well as the film’s director, Conor Allyn. She also appeared in photos with William “Billy” Baldwin, who attended the festival to promote his animated film “Billie’s Magic World” and stopped to sign autographs for fans.

Since the trial ended in June 2022, Heard had largely stepped out of the spotlight. A jury found the ‘London Fields’ star liable for defaming Depp with a 2018 Washington Post op-ed about domestic violence. Heard was ordered to pay Depp $10 million, but she eventually sued him for $100 million. A jury also ordered Depp to pay Heard $2 million because his attorney claimed she perpetuated a “hoax.”

Although they both appealed the jury’s decisions, Depp and Heard finally settled their case in December last year. Heard agreed to pay Depp $1 million, which he reportedly plans to split between five charities. For his part, Depp returned to the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in May to promote “Jeanne du Barry.”

In addition to promoting “In the Fire,” which doesn’t have a wide release date yet, Heard will also appear in “Aquaman 2.” The DC movie will premiere in theaters in December. Both films were filmed prior to the trial.
