Apple is bringing some of its most popular creative software packages to the iPad.

On Tuesday, the company launched its video editing app Final Cut Pro and its music creation app Logic Pro for the iPad.

The interface of both apps has been overhauled to be more touch-friendly and more compatible with the iPad. For example, the Final Cut Pro has a new jog wheel that helps with editing; the Live Drawing feature allows users to draw directly on their video using an Apple Pencil, and multi-touch gestures are also supported.

Another cool new feature specific to the iPad is the Pro Camera mode, which allows creators to shoot video with their iPad, edit it on the go, and publish it instantly, all from one device.

The Logic Pro for iPad also supports multi-touch gestures and Apple Pencil, and uses the iPad Pro’s five microphones to record audio that can then be edited on the go.

New features include the new sound browser that shows instrument patches, audio patches, samples, loops, and plug-in presets in one place. The Pro Mixer feature uses iPad’s multi-touch gestures that allow users to move multiple faders at once, and a new feature called Beat Breaker uses swipe and pinch gestures, allowing creators to reshape and shuffle sounds.

You don’t have to be completely keyboard-less, though; both apps work well with Magic Keyboard or Smart Keyboard Folio for iPad if you have one.

The availability of these apps for the iPad is yet another move by Apple that aims to bring the most powerful iPad models on par with the company’s laptops.

Both apps will be available in Apple’s App Store on Tuesday, May 23. The price for each app is $4.99 per month or $49 per year with a one-month free trial.

However, compatibility for these apps is not quite the same. Final Cut Pro requires iPad models with an M1 chip (or later), while Logic Pro is available for iPads with an A12 Bionic chip (or later). Both apps require iPadOS 16.4.
