After a nearly four-year hiatus, Netflix’s “Black Mirror” finally returns for season six this summer. The mind-bending sci-fi anthology series premiered season five in June 2019 with just three episodes over an hour long, but Variety reported that the upcoming season will feature more episodes.

Netflix hasn’t shared too many details about the sixth season of “Black Mirror” yet, but released its first teaser trailer on April 26 featuring the new cast — including Aaron Paul, Josh Hartnett, Paapa Essiedu, Kate Mara, and Zazie Beetz . In the announcement, the streamer teased that the new season is “the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet.”

A source close to the show’s production previously told Variety that the dystopian series will be “even more cinematic in scope” when it returns, as each standalone episode will be made as an individual movie. The hope is that “Black Mirror” will follow the same pattern as the previous season, which saw some of the most explosive episodes to date – including the infamous “Striking Vipers” chapter starring Anthony Mackie, Nicole Beharie and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too” by Miley Cyrus.

The future of “Black Mirror” was shaky for a while after co-creator Charlie Brooker told Radio Times Magazine he wasn’t sure viewers would have an appetite for the show’s dark content in the midst of the pandemic. “Right now I don’t know what kind of stomach there would be for stories of societies falling apart, so I’m not working on any of those stories,” he said. “I’d like to revise my comedic skills, so I’ve written scripts to make myself laugh.”

“Black Mirror” originally debuted on British broadcaster Channel 4 before Netflix picked it up after season two. Since then, the show has become a landmark on the streamer, so its return was inevitable — especially after Netflix invested in Broke and Bones, the new production company from the creators of “Black Mirror,” Deadline reported.

Ahead, here’s everything we know so far about “Black Mirror” season six, from the new cast and teaser trailer to the release date.
