ISLAMABAD: British Army Chief of General Staff (CGS), General Sir Patrick Sanders, arrived in Pakistan on Monday for a five-day defense visit as part of the long-standing defense cooperation agreement between the two countries.

During his visit, General Sanders was scheduled to meet with Chief of Staff of the Army (COAS), General Asim Munir, among other defense engagement activities. release said.

The depth and warmth of the military relationship and friendship between the UK and Pakistan, underpinned by a shared history and ‘living bridge’ diaspora ties, are highly valued by the UK.

The existing defense relationship includes Pakistani officers training at the UK’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the Advance Command and Staff Course and the Royal College of Defense Studies.

General Sanders’ visit comes nearly a year after devastating floods in Pakistan, which inundated nearly a third of the country and affected an estimated 33 million people.

The British Ministry of Defense was directly involved in assisting with flood relief operations, air transport in eight boats and ten portable generators at the request of the Pakistan Army chief.

Earlier this year, COAS Muir paid an official visit to the UK from 5 to 10 February in connection with the 5th Pakistan-UK Stabilization Conference.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had said the conference was a biennial event for military-to-military cooperation between the two countries, in which senior Pakistani military leaders have been participating since 2016.
