Caitlin Clark Named 2023 National Player of the Year: A Look at Her Sensational NCAA Career

Iowa star guard Caitlin Clark continued to impress her team and fans at this year’s NCAA Tournament. Her recent performances have further established her as one of the top college athletes in the country, and even basketball greats of the past have acknowledged that.

The 6-foot guard won the Naismith Women’s College Player of the Year award on Wednesday. The award was given to her days following her historic performance in leading the No. 2 seed Hawkeyes over the No. 5 seed Louisville Cardinals in the Elite Eight with 41 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.

She wasn’t the only one to win a prize. South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston won the Naismith Women’s College Defensive Player of the Year.

Clark and the Hawkeyes have reached the Final Four, where they face South Carolina on Friday.

Caitlin Clark shares success after receiving an award

After it was announced that Caitlin Clark was named National College Player of the Year, she shared her appreciation for her team.

“When I was here in Minnesota last year, my goal was to be here with my team. That’s the most important thing for me, to be in the Final Four and compete with my team,” said Clark.

“I know this award isn’t possible without all of you there, and I really mean that. So it’s as much yours as it is mine, and the same goes for our coaches.

“It’s been a long journey, but it’s been a super fun one. You know, ups and downs, hardships. But I’m just super grateful. And to the committee that votes on this, our game has grown so much, I know this is a super tough decision and it can go to any player.”

The job isn’t over for Clark, as Iowa will face South Carolina in the Final Four on Friday.
