Match choices
Naples vs. AC Milan
Last Chances:
Naples -0.5
One match to watch: Fikayo Tomori vs. Victor Osimhen – This is probably the most interesting game to watch on Tuesday as Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will be back against AC Milan after missing the first leg due to injury. Osimhen’s comeback is what Napoli needed and could be the key factor for the second leg.
Most likely to score a goal: Victor Osimhen – His comeback on the field will be incredibly important for the home side and Napoli need to score two goals to undo the 1-0 defeat in the first leg. Osimhen has already scored four goals in five Champions League matches he has played this season.
Pick man of the match: Mike Maignan – He was already crucial in the first leg with his saves, particularly the second half off Napoli’s defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo. His saves are like goals for his club and he is probably one of the best goalkeepers in Europe this season.
Match Prediction: Apart from the fact that Napoli has to score two goals, it will not be easy against AC Milan, as the first leg also showed. I can see Napoli scoring first, but then AC Milan will also have chances, as they will probably have more attacking space in the second half. Choose: Napoli 1, AC Milan 1. Francis Porzio
Real Madrid vs. Chelsea
Recommended game | Chelsea against Real Madrid
One match to watch: Joao Felix vs. Eder Militao – In the extremely unlikely event of Chelsea getting even an outside shot in this game, their rush on the field will have to turn into much more than last week at the Santiago Bernabeu. To do that, Felix really needs to assert himself more thoroughly against the impressive Militao, against whom he seemed reluctant in the first leg. More than anyone else, the Portuguese striker, on loan from Atletico Madrid, should feel he has a point to prove against the European champions, not least as he still has to convince skeptics at Chelsea that he worth a lot of money.
Most likely to score a goal: Karim Benzema – Honestly you could give me the choice between the whole Chelsea team scoring first and Benzema, I’ll still take the Frenchman. I might be tempted to bring Thibaut Courtois over Chelsea, that’s how disappointing they look in front of goal.
Pick man of the match: Vinicius Junior – Not even Chelsea’s incredibly deep bench has an answer for Vinicius. On Wednesday night, he took on Reece James, N’Golo Kante and Wesley Fofana and made them look like contest winners. This was top tier bully ball, why wouldn’t he want to bully the Champions League weaklings one more time?
Match Prediction: Chelsea 0, Real Madrid 1 – I was quite optimistic that Chelsea’s midfield could match Madrid’s in the first leg; if Mateo Kovacic hadn’t played a hellish game, I might have been right. I’m still not sure if it matters much because the difference between these two sides is in the penalty area. Expect Madrid to handle this game as they did the second leg against Liverpool, suppressing the pace and waiting for their moment to strike. When the time comes, they will certainly exploit it. – James bang
Inter against Benfica
Last Chances:
Between -0.5
One match to watch: Goncalo Ramos vs. the Inter defense. Inter go into the second leg of this draw with a clear goal, to prevent Benfica from finding the back of the net. And as long as Inter don’t get a penalty, Benfica will most likely score if Ramos can break through Inter’s defence. It’s something he couldn’t do in the opening game and scoring in general is something Benfica have struggled with lately, conceding only two goals in their last four games. To recover, Ramos will have to score, preferably early.
Most likely to score a goal: Romelu Lukaku. Despite how much of a rollercoaster Lukaku’s season has been, he got the job done in the Champions League. With three goals in just four games, Lukaku has scored as many goals as in Serie A this season and will look to continue that to freeze this tie. If Inter can move up, Lukaku’s return to Italy will have been worth it.
Pick man of the match: João Mario. Benfica will not go down easily as they start putting pressure on Inter early and often. Mario’s creativity will be one reason why he can find space between Inter’s full-backs and create chances. With a few assists, Mario will do enough to take man of the match honors as Benfica fights back.
Match Prediction: While Benfica will win the game as this is a two-legged affair, that won’t be enough as Inter already have a two-goal lead. All Inter need is one goal to create an advantage that is hard to negate and they will get it when Befica push forward for an equaliser. Inter 1, Benfica 2 —Chuck Booth
Bayern Munich vs Manchester City
Recommended game | Bayern Munich vs. Manchester City
One match to watch: Jamal Musiala vs. Rodri. Realistically, Bayern’s chances of moving up are not great. On top of the 3-0 thump they got in the opening game, there was also the infighting between Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane which probably poisoned the atmosphere a bit. If the Germans are to have any chance of getting out of this mess, they need a strong performance from Musiala. Unfortunately for the 20-year-old, Rodri was in strong form last week and could be another obstacle here.
Most likely to score a goal: Erling Haland. Are we really kidding ourselves that the Norwegian superstar will not add his goal and assist from the opening game? Haaland is currently in ominous form and if City need to score in Bavaria, the Scandinavian is the most likely source.
Pick man of the match: Reuben Dias. Bayern aren’t exactly bursting with attacking prowess at the moment, but they still have enough threat to at least attempt a comeback. The form of the Portugal international will determine whether or not Thomas Tuchel’s side can hope to beat Ederson once between the sticks, let alone three times to force the tie after 180 minutes.
Match Prediction: Bayern 0-1 City (0-4). Don’t expect a blowout like the opening leg, but this one should be much tighter. Tuchel probably has more work on his hands than first thought, so the hosts should be prepared for a battle with City doing enough to take a narrow win here to secure a convincing overall overall success. -Jonathan Johnson
