The situation at first base for the Philadelphia Phillies has gotten even more murky. Darick Hall has had surgery for a torn ligament in his thumb, the team announced on Wednesday. The Phillies says its timeframe for a return is about two months.

Hall was because of the torn cruciate ligament ago by Rhys Hoskins this spring. Hoskins, who hit 30 home runs in 2022, may miss all of the 2023 season. Hall got off to a slow start this season with a slash of .222/.263/.278 in six games and 19 at bats, though he does have quite a left-handed pop offers.
Clemens, 26, is not establishing himself as a suitable regular at the top level, so he is a stopgap at best should he appear in manager Rob Thomson’s line-up any time soon.
