Lahore Police have detained Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Pakistan’s President of Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Punjab and former Health Minister of Punjab following the Lahore High Court’s decision to release the detention of 17 women, including them to suspend.
The government’s action against the MOT continues as the arrest of Dr. Rashid is related to allegations of rioting that happened during nationwide protests following the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan on May 9.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid was taken into custody at Services Hospital, as she was wanted by police in connection with three cases, according to police sources. The cases against her are registered at Sarwar Road, Gulberg and Shadman police stations and include sections related to terrorism and other serious charges.
It is worth noting that Dr. Yasmin Rashid was hospitalized due to her deteriorating health condition. Model Town division personnel arrived to arrest her. Given her poor condition, the police have decided to keep Dr. Yasmin Rashid in custody at the hospital.
The 17 women, including Dr Rashid, were to be released from Kot Lakhpat Prison by order of the Supreme Court.
Speaking to the media outside prison, lawyer Muhammed Rashid shared that he had obtained the parole order from the Supreme Court for his female comrade. However, despite the court order, all of the women were re-arrested in several cases shortly after their release.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid was taken to hospital due to her deteriorating health. According to party sources, she has breathing problems.
