Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will hit theaters this week on March 31, 2023. Ahead of the big day, Chris Pine opened up about his thoughts on the film at the film’s premiere on Sunday in Los Angeles. Speaking to Variety’s Marc Malkin, Pine spoke about the upcoming adventure film and shared where he got his references from. Pine also talked about the action in the movie. Read on to know more.

Chris Pine on the public reaction to Dungeons and Dragons

Chris Pine revealed that he’s watched Dungeons & Dragons with audiences more than many of his other films and loves the experience. The actor said that the audience feels alive, in a good mood and wants to talk about it. According to Pine, cinema, especially big budget movies, can make people feel alive and escape the unpleasant realities of the world and he feels like his upcoming film will do the same.

Speaking about his character of Edgin Darvis in the movie, Chris Pine said, “There’s a bit of a swashbuckler to this guy in this world, which I love. I’m an 80s baby. So all my references were 80s.” The actor said that his character is a mix of several popular movies from the 1980s, such as Goonies, NeverEnding Story, Indiana Jones and Pirates.

Furthermore, Pine said that he likes the film to be honest and sweet. He figured that being “sweet” has a bad reputation and everything should be “cool”, and said he is “too cool”. “I think cool is super boring. I want something that’s real,’ he said.

Chris Pine on doing the stunts in Dungeons & Dragons

Pine also talked about the action he’s done in the movie, which he revealed wasn’t much other than running. He candidly shared that while the stuntmen trained in martial arts, he had a great time walking on the beach, reading and catching up on Netflix. “I don’t do stunts in this movie. Nothing. I have no action. All I do is run. Run from shit,” Pine said. “All those poor jerks had to do all those martial arts workouts on the weekends and I took walks on the beach. I was reading, watching my Netflix. I had a great time,” said Chris.

Dungeons and Dragons is an adaptation of the iconic fantasy game written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. Chris Pine stars in the film alongside Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justin Smith, Sophia Lillis, Hugh Grant and Daisy Head.
