RAWALPINDI: Eight terrorists have been shot down during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in South Waziristan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.

While conducting the operation in the Zarmilan area, an intense firefight took place between security forces and terrorists, resulting in the deaths of the militants, the ISPR said in a statement.

However, two soldiers – Lance Naik Shoaib Ali, 25, a resident of Kurram, and Sepoy Rafi Ullah, 22, a resident of Lakki Marwat – embraced martyrdom after fighting bravely.

The ISPR added that weapons and ammunition were also found among the killed terrorists. “The killed terrorists continued to actively engage in terrorist activities against security forces and the killing of innocent civilians.”

The army’s media department added that the area is being sanitized to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area.

“Pakistan security forces remain determined to remove the threat of terrorism and such sacrifices by our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” it added.
