Evil Dead Rise: Alyssa Sutherland Shares Her Character Insight for Iconic Horror Franchise; DEET inside

A film that can give you goosebumps and at the same time keep your eyes from moving from one corner to the next is one that every fan has been waiting for. And what if we told you that ‘Evil Dead Rise’ is exactly the one that ticks all the boxes on the checklist?

Director and writer Lee Cronin loosely based the children in the movie “Evil Dead Rise” on his cousins. The film is presented by New Line Cinema and Renaissance Pictures, marking a return to the iconic horror franchise.

It will be graced with casts that won’t leave you blinking with wrinkles on your forehead and the stunning Lily Sullivan from “I Met a Girl Barkskins”, and Alyssa Sutherland, who did a fantastic performance for “New Gold Mountain”, and “Vikings will take over the lead.

Plot Summary of Evil Dead Rises

The movie “Evil Dead Rise” follows the twisted story of two estranged sisters, played by Sullivan and Sutherland, whose reunion is disrupted by the appearance of flesh-eating demons, with the action taking place in the city rather than the woods.

So they are forced to engage in an elemental struggle for survival while interacting with the most gruesome family imaginable. The producer of “Evil Dead Rise” is Rob Tapert, a seasoned member of the Evil Dead franchise who previously worked on “Ash vs. Evil Dead” and “Don’t Breathe.”

Here’s what Lee Cronin has to say about developing the film from scratch.

It’s interesting to note that Cronin claims to have drawn inspiration for the script and characters from his own family. The kids in the movie were partly modeled on his cousins. In their words, Cronin wrote, “As they shared little ideas with me, they became nuggets of personality during the writing process.”

Beth and Ellie, the protagonists of the two sisters, came to life as Cronin explored the psychology of the characters and the importance of choices in life: “It was really exciting for me to explore the different choices people can make.” Moreover, it just seemed appropriate to select these two female protagonists as the main characters of the plot.

Alyssa Sutherland plays the role of the mother. Here’s what she says about her role:

Alyssa Sutherland, who plays the mother, says of her character, “Ellie is going through a huge split in her family.” She and her three children struggle with having to leave the family home after her divorce from her husband, which is practically quite hard in Los Angeles.

Lee explains why he wanted the sister’s role to take center stage.

Director Lee Cronin explains why he decided to bring the sister in: “I needed Beth to come back into the family, and get that family moving. Instead of taking the obvious family unit, I wanted that there was the reality of fractures and fissures because I believed that made it easier to explore and dig with the fingers, and some of the fear might then stem from that”.

“Evil Dead Rise” will be available worldwide from Warner Bros. Pictures and will be released in India on April 21, 2023.
