EXCLUSIVE: Nikhil Siddhartha on Spy, Karthikeya 2 Success; Says ‘Bollywood is not connected to its audience’

Nikhil Siddhartha is a young and rising star of Telugu cinema. The actor, who started his journey from Happy Days in the film industry, has paved the niche as a pan-Indian star with his recent blockbuster Karthikeya 2. Now he is returning to the big screen with another pan-Indian film Spy, based on Netaji Subash Chandra Bose. When the film was released today, the actor spoke to Pinkvilla in an exclusive talk and talked about Spy, the success of Karthikeya 2, the pan-Indian market and more.

When asked about freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose’s connection to the film, Nikhil explained, “It is not a biopic, but just a few incidents from Netaji’s film, his disappearance, some unknown facts and more. We talk about the incidents that took place around Independence or Netaji is explored in depth.” Directed by debut film editor Garry BH, Rana Daggubati appears in a cameo and the film also stars Abhinav Gomatam, Iswarya Menon, Aryan Rajesh and Sanya Thakur.

The actor added, like any film, that he is also afraid of Spy, but states that it will not have any controversy as it is a clean film. He also said that Spy is going to be a wholesome family entertainer. “Like any movie, I had my own fears. But the movie only shows the truth that Netaji sticks to the facts and didn’t tamper with history. The movie is based on some of the important events that happened in his life and has an underlying message . We have a clean U/A certificate without any censor cuts, so there won’t be any controversies at all. If you watch the movie, you’ll understand,” the actor said when asked if he was worried about the topic and how the public will perceive it.

Nikhil is super excited about Spy as it is the first film in the Spy thriller genre. He said he had been a Jason Bourne fan and wanted to do a spy thriller. “It’s a genre I’ve always been a fan of. Ever since I saw Jason Bourne, Mission Impossible and all those movies, I’ve always dreamed of making a spy thriller where I play someone protecting the country Nikhil Siddhartha plays the role of a spy on a mission to retrieve the documents and also avenge his brother’s death. This movie has many twists and turns and it is a perfect blend of history and thriller together.”

Karthikeya 2 success and South movies overtaking Bollywood

Nikhil Siddhartha has been one such actor along with Jr NTR, Ram Charan and Allu Arjun who has brought Telugu cinema to a northern audience with Karthikeya 2. The film received a huge response from the audience. The actor shared his thoughts behind it saying, “I am grateful to represent Telugu cinema and I have received so much love from the audience. We did not expect that people in North India, especially the Hindi speaking region, I go own this movie. But since then I’ve just worked to get better with each movie. I don’t want to take the audience’s love lightly.” The 38-year-old actor also added that under pressure, he also has a responsibility to live up to his fans’ expectations.

For the inexperienced, the actor film Karthikeya 2, which was released last year, faced box office biggies like Aamir Khan’s Lal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan and came out as the winner. The film did extremely well and also made records at the Hinid box office. When asked to comment on the debate on whether South has overtaken movies like RRR, Pushpa, Karthikeya 2 and more, he said, “Look, I’m not here to criticize a movie, but I don’t think Bollywood is is connected to its audience.”. In the South, the stars and producers are very rooted and connected to the regional audience and make movies accordingly. The commercial movies in Bollywood don’t understand what the audience wants. Here in the South, we know what the public wants and what they want. expect and that may be a key factor.”

Traveling for 16 years, calls his wife ‘lucky charm’

It has been a ride for Nikhil during 16 years in the Telugu film industry as the actor, looking back on his journey, laughed and said, “My journey has been a roller coaster ride.” Coming from a non-movie background, despite a few hiccups, I made it to my liking. You know how important it is to survive and not give up. Even in this movie there is dialogue, only the person who can survive against all odds is the winner. And I think I’ve been doing this for 16 years now.”

However, Nikhil also believes that besides his hard work, his wife Pallavi has been the lucky charm in his life. The actor, who got married during the COVID-19 pandemic, is enjoying a joyful personal and professional life. He concluded: yes, I do believe she is my good luck charm. since we got married, she’s been a mainstay. And I also feel that I am married, because nothing has changed in life. And because of Spy’s back-to-back promotions, I couldn’t give her time and she understands that.”
