NOWPDP – a disability inclusion initiative – has launched a NOWInclusive tour to promote disability awareness and inclusion through immersive and educational activities representing a variety of disabilities.
Through this ‘interactive journey’, the NGO aims to immerse people in activities that represent visual, auditory, physical and intellectual disabilities; while also learning about disability etiquette, through sensitization.
“At NOWPDP, we believe that innovation and empowerment are key to pursuing an inclusive society as traditional models of charity have further marginalized individuals with disabilities,” NOWPDP CEO Omair Ahmad said while speaking to Geo.tv.
He said the NOWInclusive tour was yet another representation of the pioneering initiatives that NOWPDP pursued, to Bashamool (included) Pakistan.
“With this tour, we want to show, for a fleeting moment, what the life of a person with a disability is all about and the challenges they face on a daily basis,” he said, adding that they hope this tour will give participants food for thought about how they can play a small role in creating a just society for persons with disabilities.
According to the plan, a draft of which was seen by Geo.tvthe tour includes different activities each with a special intention.
It should be noted that NOWPDP was established in 2008 as a disability inclusion initiative.
It works in the areas of identity, well-being, education, skills development and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities. The pillars that guide the organization’s mandate include:
- Rehnumai (Guidance)
- Shanakht (identity)
- Falah (well-being)
- Taleem (Education)
- Hunar (skills)
- Rozgar (Employment)
- Khudmukhtari (Self-reliance)
