In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Natalie Portman revealed that she’s ready for a friendly between her and Ryan Reynolds’ football teams.
Natalie Portman started the Angel City Football Club women’s soccer team with co-owners Serena Williams, Mia Hamm, Eva Longoria, and others. The Black Swan star previously said she got a lot of rejections before getting a big yes. She was determined not to give up because of her faith in the team and the athletes on the roster. Here’s what Natalie Portman has to say about facing off against Ryan Reynolds’ women’s soccer team.

The Black Swan star spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of her new docuseries, Angel City — which is based on Angel City Football Club, Natalie Portman’s women’s soccer team from Los Angeles. At the time, the actress revealed that she was considering the idea of Angel City Football Club playing a ‘friendly match’ with Wrexham AFC Women – Reynolds’ and Rob McElhenney’s women’s team.
Natalie Portman said of Ryan Reynolds to ET: ‘I’ve been lucky enough to talk to him about his journey, and he’s so inspiring for what he’s done with Wrexham, and they also have a women’s team. So we talked about having a few friendlies at some point.”
Portman’s confidence in the Angel City FC was certainly well placed as the team finished in eighth place in its inaugural season in the National Women’s Soccer League in 2022, which can also be seen in the docuseries. Angel City will begin streaming on HBO Max on May 16.
With the docuseries, Portman hopes other teams can learn from their rights and mistakes and navigate accordingly to build teams.
