Being a stepmother can be tough – even before your husband mysteriously goes missing. In this exclusive clip from the fourth episode of Apple TV+’s “The Last Thing He Told Me,” Jennifer Garner’s Hannah and Angourie Rice’s Bailey continue their investigation into where Bailey’s father Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) might be. As the pair dig through old documents, Hannah tries to get in touch with her stepdaughter, who is still reeling from the information they’ve found so far and the questions it raises about her identity.
Earlier this month, Rice, 22, spoke to POPSUGAR about the connection between Hannah and Bailey on the series. “Olivia Newman, who directed three of the episodes and is also an executive producer, presented it to me as a mother-daughter love story, which I really loved,” the actor explained. “It’s about two women who don’t know how to be in each other’s lives. And over the course of the story, they learn how to do that.” She added that before filming began, she, Garner, and the series’ writers sat down to read through the scripts and chart the path of Hannah and Bailey’s tenuous bond.
Garner also reunites with her “Alias” costar Victor Garber in the show’s new episode, airing Friday, April 28 on Apple TV+. POPSUGAR: “The only real problem I had was that I couldn’t stop smiling at him at times when I should be pretty concerned.” She explained, “Our showrunner, Josh Singer, kept coming in to whisper in my ear, ‘Stop smiling at Victor. Be Hannah, don’t be Jennifer.'”
“But I couldn’t help it,” Garner added. “I just love him too much.”
