Kohli on RCB’s loss to KKR: ‘You call that a freebie’

“To be honest, we handed the game over to them,” Kohli told the presenter after the game. “We deserved to lose because we weren’t professional enough in the field. The bowlers hit decent areas but we couldn’t hold onto our chances. That’s what you call a freebie in T20 cricket and we literally gave them a win. which to me is not ideal because we take pride in the way we play and tonight we were not up to standard and something we are not shy about admitting.

“[There were] a few cases where we didn’t take advantage during times of crisis. In the field there was a period of four-five overs where we missed chances and that ended up costing us about 25-30 runs.”

Rana hit two sixes off Harshal in the next over and closed the next over, the 17th, with two fours and a six off Vyshak. RCB eventually gave up 50 from the last four overs, taking KKR to 200.

RCB then lost three wickets – those of Faf du Plessis, Shahbaz Ahmed and Glenn Maxwell – in the power play in their chase despite scoring 58. Kohli then hit his fifth half century this season and kept RCB in the game with a score of 55 points. with Mahipal Lomror. But the pair fell in quick succession and that derailed the chase.

“With the bat we set up very well and then [there were] so many soft layoffs,” Kohli said.” Balls that aren’t wicket-taking balls, but we ended up hitting fielders about four to five times in the innings. These are some of the soft plays in cricket that you want to avoid as a team. So if you do six-seven of those in a night, you’re clearly on the losing side.

“Even after losing wickets as well, one partnership got us back in the game. We were one partnership away from approaching that chase.” [target] down. We just need to identify the things that didn’t go well tonight and not give the opposition a whimper.”
