Lizzo was that girl on the Renaissance tour. In a June 27 Instagram post, the singer captured getting emotional when she saw Beyoncé display her name on the stadium screen in Warsaw, Poland, as she sang “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix).” The song’s lyrics included a shout out to several influential female artists such as Lauryn Hill, Grace Jones, Betty Davis, and Rosetta Tharpe. The group was completed by Lizzo herself, with Beyoncé placing special emphasis on her name during the live performance.
“At the time I was thinking about baby me, listening to Happy Face by Destiny’s Child and crying myself to sleep because of bullies,” Lizzo captioned her post. “I thought about Beyoncé jumping into the room where Tina Turner was waiting to meet her for the first time. I think about what we all mean to people and how cyclical it is. We are all so infinitely and maximally connected and important. It’s an honor,” she continued, thanking Beyoncé for her recognition.
In the sweet video, Lizzo watched her name appear on the Renaissance screen and turned to the camera to hold back tears and shake her head in disbelief. Throughout the rest of the concert, fan footage showed Lizzo living her best life, singing her heart out on songs like “Energy” and “Church Girl,” and even recreating Blue Ivy’s viral “My Power” choreography on her own TikTok. Read on to see how Lizzo has the concert experience of a lifetime on the Renaissance Tour.
