Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday denounced President Arif Alvi for expressing “anti-government and one-sided” views in a letter for the implementation of Supreme Court orders regarding the elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

On March 24, President Dr. Arif Alvi had written to the Prime Minister, urging him to carry out the orders of the apex court regarding the provincial elections.

However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said – in a five-page response to the seven-point message – Alvi’s letter appeared to be a “press release” from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), reflecting biased and anti-government views.

“I must begin by expressing my disappointment at the blatantly partisan nature of your letter, which reads in part like a press release from the opposition political party, namely Pakistan’s Tehrik-e-Insaaf (whose one-sided, government views you continue to openly endorse, despite your constitutional oath/office of president,” Prime Minister Shehbaz stated in the letter.

He said the president was known to have acted in a similar “partisan manner” several times before in violation of his oath.
