  • LB representatives “state immediately terminated” for abstaining.
  • Members defied party leader Imran Khan’s instructions to vote for JI.
  • UC presidents “commit misdemeanor chargeable under Section 63(A) of the Constitution”.

Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh branch on Sunday expelled six more chairmen of the trade union committee (UC) for ignoring party guidelines in the recently held mayoral elections in Karachi.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Murtaza Wahab was elected mayor of Karachi, defeating Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman after the representatives of the local PTI body refused to vote for the latter in the elections of June 15.

According to the results, the PPP leader garnered 173 votes, while the JI leader in Karachi garnered 160 votes.

In separate notices sent to the six party members earlier today, Haleem Adil Sheikh, president of PTI Sindh, said that the basic membership of the six representatives of local bodies “will be terminated immediately due to your absence on Election Day 6/15/2023 involving misconduct committed in complete contravention of party guidelines.”

The president of PTI Sindh said members defied party leader Imran Khan’s instructions to vote in favor of Jamaat Islami (JI) candidates Naeemur Rahman Khan and Saifuddin candidates for mayor and deputy mayor respectively.

The message further cited the replies to the party members as misconduct and said they have “committed an offense punishable under Section 63(A) of the Constitution”.

A day earlier, the PTI removed 10 UC presidents and one vice president from office for the same reason.
