ISLAMABAD: The local government will name dozens of roads in the federal capital after prominent personalities who have made huge contributions to Pakistan in their respective fields. The news reported.
According to details, letters have been written to all federated units along with Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan by the local government of the capital seeking names of notable figures who have earned laurels for the country in various fields.
With this initiative, the administration primarily wanted to collect names, which it receives from the provinces. It will now start a selection process with the help of the competent authorities.
The administration will likely compile a list of select names that will eventually be approved by the federal government.
The initiative is likely to gain appreciation from people belonging to different walks of life as many believe that people who have provided unparalleled services in their respective fields should be recognized at the highest level.
It should be noted that only a small number of roads and streets are named after prominent personalities in Islamabad. But now the local government plans to name at least 40 to 50 roads and streets in recognition of the services many people provided before and after the partition of the subcontinent.
“As the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad has a special status and it is very important for someone’s work here to be recognized by naming a street or road after them. There are some people who have done great work for this country, but they have yet to be fully recognized,” an official said.
He added that a list of names will be prepared and presented for final approval. “The list will include names of people belonging to all parts of the country. The process is ongoing and will be completed in the coming weeks.”
