Last week, the New Orleans Saints brought in a former NFL head coach to help their new quarterback, Derek Carr, transitioning to a new team after spending his entire career so far with the Raiders organization. This week, Saints coach Dennis Allen explained why the team brought in Gruden and why he wasn’t concerned about potential backlash regarding the decision to consult with a coach who is only about 20 months away from ignominiously leaving the league.

In particular, Allen alluded to Gruden’s experience working with Carr in Las Vegas, also noting that Gruden was not the only coach to visit the team.

There’s no question that Gruden has a strong offensive spirit, and he certainly helped Carr find success during their time together. However, there is a reason he is completely out of the league at the moment and there has been no momentum towards a possible return. The Saints just don’t seem to care.
