ISLAMABAD: The Fourth Ministerial Conference of Afghanistan’s Neighbors, held in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand on Thursday, noted that the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan continued to pose threats to peace in the region – a position Pakistan has been advocating for a long time.

According to a statement from the Neighboring Countries Meeting: “The parties pointed out that all terrorist groups, namely Daesh, Al-Qaeda, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Jundallah, Jaish al -Adl, Jamaat Ansarullah and other terrorist organizations in Afghanistan continue to pose a serious threat to regional and global security.”

Recently, in his report, Radio Free Europe also said that after the United States withdrew its troops from Afghanistan, it left behind military equipment and weapons worth $7 billion, which later bolstered the military capabilities of Pakistan’s outlawed TTP and Baloch separatist groups.

The US abandoned weapons and equipment, including firearms, communications equipment and even armored vehicles that gave the militants a “massive war chest,” the report added.

Attended by the foreign ministers and senior officials of China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the meeting of neighboring countries noted that the terrorism-related security situation in Afghanistan remains serious and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation. terrorism and security between neighboring countries and to develop a united front against terrorism.

Pakistan has always maintained that the success of any regional or international effort to mitigate the current situation in Afghanistan will continue to depend on the seriousness of the IAG to ensure that Afghan soil is not used against any country.

Since the Taliban takeover, Pakistan has also called for the establishment of an inclusive political structure, the conduct of moderate domestic and foreign policies, and the guarantee of the basic rights of all Afghans, including ethnic groups, women and children.

The Afghan authorities should also take visible steps to ensure that Afghanistan never again serves as a breeding ground, safe haven or source of the proliferation of terrorism.

“Terrorism is a common enemy and peace and stability is a collective responsibility. Any action by IAG to contain anti-Pakistani elements and not allow Afghan land against Pakistan would strengthen fraternal relations between the two countries,” said a security analyst.

State Minister of Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, who also addressed the meeting, said: “We also believe that more needs to be done to eradicate the position of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan, indiscriminately and in a coordinated and unified manner. Closer cooperation and coordination with the Afghan interim government remains crucial. We look forward to working closely with neighboring countries and the international community on this.”

She said that the threat of terrorism continues to devastate the lives of the Afghan people on a daily basis and that the threat posed by terrorist organizations to neighboring countries and the region has increased.
