Sarah Ferguson, a former senior aide to the British Royal Family, was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery.

Ferguson was married to Prince Andrew, Duke of York, from 1986 to 1996. Although their divorce was finalized in 1996, the exes remain close. They still live together and have two daughters: Princess Beatrice, 34, and Princess Eugenie, 33.

Here’s to find out more about Sarah Ferguson’s breast cancer diagnosis and the surgery she underwent.

Cancer diagnosis in Sarah Ferguson

It was announced on Sunday that Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has been diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. She is currently recovering from surgery after a recent mammogram screening diagnosed breast cancer. Her spokesperson told the BBC: “She was advised to have surgery, which was successful.” The spokesman also added that the prognosis now looks good.

The spokesperson also expressed “immeasurable gratitude to all the medical staff who have assisted her over the past few days” and stressed regular screening. Reportedly, Ferguson was “symptom-free” prior to cancer screening and “believes her experience underscores the importance of regular screening.”

Sarah Ferguson is reportedly now recovering with her family after receiving the “best medical care.” The Duchess of York underwent surgery at King Edward VII’s Hospital earlier this week. She returned home to Windsor over the weekend to recuperate. Ferguson herself is expected to talk about the cancer diagnosis on a pre-recorded episode of Tea Talk, her new podcast to be released Monday.
