The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will spend a Rs50 commemorative coin on the occasion of 50 years of promulgation of the constitution, the central bank said in a statement Thursday.
The Constitutionpassed by the National Assembly on April 10, 1973, is “Pakistan’s supreme law, intended to guide the law, political culture and Pakistani system,” the statement said.
“It outlines the outline of the state and serves to enshrine and protect the fundamental rights of the people, and to ensure security for every citizen of Pakistan.”
The SBP noted that 2023 marks the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution and to mark the occasion, the Federal Government had authorized a Rs50 commemorative coin to be issued.
The coin will be issued from April 14 (tomorrow) through the exchange counters at all SBP Banking Services Corporation field offices.
Sharing details of the design, the central bank said the coin will be round and made of two metals: 75% copper and 25% nickel. It weighs 13.5 grams and measures 30 mm.
The face of the coin will feature a crescent moon and a five-pointed star facing northwest in an ascending position. An inscription, “Islami Jamhooriya Pakistan” in Urdu script will be present above the star, while two sprigs of wheat with their ends pointing upwards and the year of issue – 2023 – will be at the bottom of the coin. In addition, the face value of the coin – 50 – and the word “rupiahin Urdu script are also engraved on the coin.
Meanwhile, the obverse of the coin will feature a book titled “The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan” in the center, with the words “Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of Pakistan” in Urdu script on the edge. The period of 50 years will be listed below the book, while “50” and “years” will be written in Urdu on the right and left sides respectively.
