Officials say Russia launched Iranian Shahed drones in its sixth attack on the Ukrainian capital this month.

Russia launched its sixth airstrike on Ukraine’s capital this month, but all incoming drones were shot down and initial reports said there was no damage or casualties, officials said.

The reported attack on Kiev on Tuesday morning came a day after Russia warned of “harsh retaliation” following a drone attack on the capital Moscow, some 500km (300 miles) from Ukraine.

Russia attacked Kiev with Iranian-made Shahed drones, and based on preliminary information, all drones were shot down by Ukraine’s air defense systems, Serhiy Popko, head of Kiev’s military administration, said on the Telegram messaging app.

“The air raid alarm lasted for 3 hours… All air targets were detected and destroyed on the approach to Kiev,” he said.

“According to information at this time, there were no casualties or destruction in the capital.”

Kiev’s regional military administration had previously issued a warning of drone strikes and warned residents to stay in shelters.

The Air Force has also issued a warning of drone attacks on the southern regions of Odessa and Mykolaiv, which are part of Ukraine’s Black Sea coast.

The regions are home to port infrastructure that Moscow has regularly battered with attack drones and missiles since it struck a deal last week that allowed the safe shipment of grain from Ukraine.
