Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour had its first-ever guest appearance on March 25 at her second show in Las Vegas. During the concert, Swift invited her friend and collaborator Marcus Mumford, singer of Mumford & Sons, to come onstage with her to perform “Cowboy Like Me” from her album “Evermore”.

Mumford, who also appears on the album version of the song, shared a video of the performance on his TikTok, writing in the caption, “You’re a bandit like me @taylorswift.” In the live version he sang a verse from the song, but on the album version he only sings harmonies.

After the show, Swift wrote on Instagram, “Last night Marcus Mumford showed up in Vegas and surprised the crowd with ‘Cowboy Like Me’ so much fun 🤩🤯😝! Thank you to @marcusmumford and that glorious audience. See you next weekend in Texas!”

Before Mumford performed with her, Swift told the audience a story about how the musician ended up on her album. According to fans at the event, Swift said that in 2020, after the release of “Folklore”, she still had ideas for more songs and wanted to write a second album, “Evermore”. The problem was that most recording studios were still closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So her friend and collaborator Aaron Dessner called people he knew to see if they had a space Swift could use, and Mumford offered his home studio.

Apparently, Swift really wanted Mumford to be on her number, but was too scared to ask him. However, he walked into the studio while she was recording “Cowboy Like Me” and started humming a harmony, so she eventually asked for his help. The singer added that five or six songs on “Evermore” were recorded at Mumford’s house.

The Eras Tour has only just begun and Swift is now playing in the US through August (international dates to be announced). Naturally, fans are speculating who else Swift might invite to perform on stage with her. She’s got songs with Haim and Phoebe Bridgers, both of whom will perform for her at a later date on the tour, so it seems likely they’ll join her at some point. Swift also has songs with artists like Maren Morris, Keith Urban, Lana Del Rey, Bon Iver, The Chicks, Kendrick Lamar, Zayn, and Ed Sheeran, so it’s possible one of them will show up on her tour.

Swift fans are also hoping that the singer will record a new song or remix with Harry Styles when she releases “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” which features songs reportedly inspired by their relationship.

Swift’s Eras Tour set features two surprise songs each night, so there’s plenty of opportunity for live collaborations. We’ll just have to wait.
