Teyana Taylor celebrated Monday night’s New York premiere of her new movie “A Thousand and One” with two very special guests: her daughters, Junie, 7, and Rue Shumpert, 2, who she shares with husband Iman Shumpert. Dressed in matching denim outfits, the trio turned the movie screening into a fun girls’ night out as they posed for photos on the red carpet. Also in attendance were Taylor’s costars Josiah Cross, Aaron Kingsley Adetola, William Catlett and Aven Courtney.

“A Thousand and One” centers on Inez (played by Taylor), a young mother who reconnects with her son, Terry, after being released from prison in 1994. the city of New York. While not exactly based on a true story, it takes inspiration from director AV Rockwell’s life and relationship with the city.

Speaking to Access Atlanta, Taylor explained, “A lot of what Inez went through, a lot of people aren’t built to get through that and still be able to carry on with a smile on her face… and just willing to continuing the journey, but understanding just because it gets hard doesn’t mean giving up.”

Of what she learned when she stepped into Inez’s shoes, Taylor said, “I walked away with the true meaning of what it meant from the famous quote, ‘You only get one mother.’ It’s a true love letter to mothers.” She added, “All the hurried moms, the hungry moms, the moms just trying to figure this out cried out for life.”
