RAWALPINDI: Two soldiers embraced martyrdom after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on a security forces vehicle in the general area of ​​Bara, Khyber District, the army’s media department said on Saturday.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Naib Subedar Hazrat Gul (aged 37, resident of Lower Dir) and Sepoy Nazir Ullah Mehsud (aged 34, resident of South Waziristan) embraced martyrdom during the incident.

“The area is being decontaminated to eliminate any terrorists in the area,” the released statement said.

It further emphasized that the Pakistani security forces are determined to remove the threat of terrorism and such sacrifices by our soldiers further strengthen our resolve.

Earlier this week, eight terroristsincluding a local commander, were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Shin Warsak area of ​​South Waziristan.

In a statement, the ISPR said the terrorists — including Commander Jan Muhammad alias Chargh — were shot down during an intense firefight during the operation.

But during the gunfight, Sepoy Hamid Rasool, 31, a resident of Rawalpindi, fought bravely and embraced martyrdom. In addition, four staff members, including two officers, were injured, the ISPR said.
