The United States The women’s national team wraps up a two-game series against Ireland on Tuesday at CITYPARK Stadium in St. Louis, Mo. The international window is the last set of matches before Vlatko Andonovski announces his final squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The team records a 2-0 win against Ireland on Saturday, but the manager will have to evaluate new players during the second game. The team will be without a winger Mallory Swanson after she suffered a torn patellar tendon in the first half of Saturday’s game. Her timeline for recovery has yet to be determined, but her chance to play in the World Cup is in jeopardy. Forward Alyssa Thompson has been called up as a substitute in her place.

Storylines
USWNT: The team recorded a victory on Saturday, but suffered a major roster blow after Swanson was carried off the field with what was later diagnosed as a torn left patella in her left leg. As a replacement, 18-year-old Thompson was called to camps and Andonovski has said the player will play on Tuesday.
“I’m really thankful to our support staff for helping us bring Alyssa in. She was in St. Louis about the same time we arrived. It happened so fast, we have a system in place and we have a process in place for injured players. And by half-time, Alyssa was packing all her bags,” Andonovski said.
So we will see Alyssa on the field. She is an exciting player. She has the ability to turn in small areas that many players have and turn what she accelerates with the ball and runs towards defenses with confidence.”
Trinity Rodman And Lyn Williams are also forwards on the roster this window and may get the start in light of Swanson’s absence. Rose Lavelle is also unavailable for the upcoming game, which means more chances in the middle third, and Ashley Sanchez probably gets an extra look in the role.
Ireland: The group suffered a 2-0 loss to the US, where they were outplayed on all stats, but their overall form presented a challenge to the US hosts. The girls in green will want to try harder with their dead-ball situations and corner kicks to try and create a goal. Look for Katie McCabe and Denise O’Sullivan to put pressure on the American midfield trio, and for Everton Goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan has another solid performance in goal.
