
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is in Goa, India for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) summit, where he will meet some of his counterparts from different countries.
In a video message he posted on Twitter, the foreign minister said he would meet his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. He will then meet with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.
After the meetings, Bilawal will attend a dinner attended by foreign ministers from all countries. He will then contact media personnel for interviews.
FM Bilawal has visited the neighboring state at the invitation of the Foreign Minister of the Republic of India, the current Chairman of the SCO.
In addition to deliberating on key regional and international issues and signing some institutional documents, the CFM will finalize the agenda and decisions to be adopted by the 17th SCO Heads of State Meeting to be held in New Delhi on 3-4 take place. July 2023.
The CFM will witness the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with five countries, namely Bahrain, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar and the UAE, to become dialogue partners of SCO.
Despite tense ties with India, Pakistan decided to send its foreign minister to the summit in the neighboring country to demonstrate its commitment to the SCO.
In addition to Pakistan, SCO member states include China, the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and India.
The main objectives of SCO include promoting mutual trust and good neighborly relations between member states, strengthening regional peace, security and stability, and creating a framework for effective cooperation in the fields of politics, trade and economics, culture , science and technology, education, energy, transportation, tourism, environmental protection.
Since joining in 2017, Pakistan has actively and constructively contributed to all SCO activities to achieve its multi-sector goals and objectives in a mutually beneficial manner.
