The westerly wind system is impacting the country as circulation moves from Sindh to South Punjab, weather expert Jawad Memon said Monday.

The expert further added that while thunderclouds may form outside Karachi today, the metropolis is likely to receive rain tomorrow (Tuesday).

The city is expected to get rain with thunderstorms tomorrow around noon or evening.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PDM), Sindh will experience thunderstorms/rain and some moderate to isolated heavy falls over the next 24 hours.

In addition, hailstorms are likely to occur in Dadu, Jamshoro, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroz, Shaheed Benazirabad and Sanghar districts.

While light/moderate intensity thunderstorms/rain with isolated heavy falls are also expected in TM Khan, TA Yar, Hyderabad, Mityari, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Tharparker, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Karachi division districts.

Earlier the PDM has issued a weather advisory that the country was likely to receive rain between April 26 and the first week of May.

The PDM said in a statement on Twitter: “A westerly wave is likely to enter the country from April 26 (evening/night) and is likely to spread into central and southern parts of the country and could persist into the first week of May.”

Meanwhile, Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman said unstable weather systems and sporadic urban flooding could be expected from Kashmir to Karachi in the coming days.

“Special advice has also been issued for Balochistan and coastal areas. The fishing community should be alerted to the possibility of choppy seas and extreme weather, especially at Ormara, Pasni and Gwadar,” she tweeted.

The Climate Change Minister advised provinces to take precautions, including cleaning stormwater drains, stabilizing utility poles and road access during local flooding. “Especially where repair work is still ongoing after the 2022 floods,” she said.

Rehman warned that heavy rains from May 1 to May 4 could cause flash floods in Mansehra, Abbottabad, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
