Ben Affleck may be a major Hollywood personality now, but he almost got fired from a Burger King commercial when he was a teenager. Yes, you read that right! Ben’s first role as a youngster was in a Burger King commercial before starring in blockbuster hits like Good Will Hunting, Pearl Harbor and Gone Girl. Although he has now admitted that the job was almost a disaster in 1989.
On Friday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, a video clip of the advertisement, which was shot when he was just 17 years old, was shown to the public. To applause from the audience, the 50-year-old joked that if he’d known the ad was going to get that reaction, he would have been much more optimistic about his career.
“I can’t remember such enthusiasm at that time. My CEO almost fired me and now I understand why,” Ben said on the talk show.

In the ad, a young woman tries to place an order with Burger King, but accidentally calls Ben’s character’s car number instead. He drives to the fast food restaurant, orders what she requested and delivers it to her front porch. But before they can meet, his father calls the car phone and runs back to the car to answer. Ben said, “There was a car in the commercial and I had to drive.” He continued, “They’re always worried about actors on the move.”
When the director asked Ben if he could drive, it turned out that he had told a white lie. Ben said, “Yes, yes, I can drive,” to which the director replied, “Are you sure?” Ben said confidently to him, “Guys, I’ve driven like 500 or 1,000 miles.” Affleck made much wider turns in the ad, but he luckily avoids collisions and successfully delivers the order. According to Affleck, the commercial required multiple takes.
