The New York Jets are in the midst of a transformative offseason. The team is seemingly on the verge of acquiring future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers. Of course, a move of this magnitude has shifted the Jets’ outlook from a former division bottom dweller to a bona fide playoff contender and dormant Super Bowl threat.

Of course, trading actually needs to go down to really see New York in this new light, but the gambling markets seem to be getting ahead of things a bit. This week, Caesars Sportsbook released the 2023 NFL win totals for each team. As for the Jets, they are currently listed at 9.5 wins (over -135, under +115).

Below, we’ll take a closer look at New York’s prospects of potentially surpassing this total, while also describing the club’s off-season and where it’s stacked up in the standings in recent seasons.

As you can see, the Jets have not been the most competitive club in recent years. In fact, they currently own the longest playoff drought in the NFL and have not reached the postseason since the 2010 campaign. Meanwhile, the last time New York surpassed this 9.5 win total came back in 2015 when they had 10 -5 went.

Notable off-season acquisitions, leave

Of course, the imminent arrival of Aaron Rodgers takes over the Jets’ offseason. The quarterback position prevented them from reaching the playoffs last year, so adding one of Rodgers’ caliber should put them in contention. Elsewhere, the Jets have also revamped the wide receiver room, pairing offensive rookie of the year in Garrett Wilson with Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman. The Jets have that too linked to free agent Odell Beckham Jr., so there could be even more talent coming into this position group.

2023 opponents

The road isn’t exactly favorable for the Jets in 2023, as they currently have the sixth-hardest schedule in the NFL when it comes to combined opponent win percentage from a season ago. That’s largely because they play the NFC East and AFC West, two of the toughest divisions in the NFL. As they finished last in the division in 2022, the Jets will have some layup games like the Texans and Falcons, but this won’t be an easy schedule.

Prediction

It’s worth pointing out that it’s a bit unwise to place a bet at this point of the year as anything can happen between now and Week 1. Rodgers isn’t even a member of the Jets either, and who knows, this saga might have another crazy swing in it. That said, assuming Rodgers makes his way to New York, the Jets will be a competitive team with a talented defense and play much better under center. Also, once Rodgers is traded, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see this 9.5 win total rise to 10.5, which is where things can get a little dicey. As it stands, they should be looking at around 11 wins if they factor in a heavy schedule with the potential to do damage if/when they reach the postseason.

Latest record prediction for 2023: 11-6
